He is the son and disciple of Padmashri & Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Guru Smt. Geetanjali Lal ji, one of the greatest pioneers in the world of Kathak.
Abhimanyu Lal has inherited his mother's zeal and commitment towards Kathak and continues to enrich the legacy of the Jaipur Gharana. Currently, he is teaching the art of Kathak at the National Institute of Kathak Dance (Kathak Kendra), New Delhi, India. His knowledge of the dance form, coupled with his innovative style, makes him one of the most sought-after Kathak performers and teachers in India.
Abhimanyu's performances are rich in artistry and precision, along with extensive footwork blended beautifully with complex rhythm patterns captivating the audience. Timeless and modern are the two worlds typically balanced in his choreography by containing within his art both the signature of traditional Kathak and elements of contemporary expression. Abhimanyu, apart from being a brilliant dancer, is also an expert at Pakhawaj (Indian drum) and Western drums, adding to his versatile musical talent.
