Adhyay: The Bengali Alternative Metal/Metalcore Band from Kolkata
Adhyay is an avant-garde Bengali alternative metal/metalcore band that comes from Kolkata. Since its formation in 2015, the band has been revolutionizing the sound of Bengali music. Known for breathtaking performances and lyrics that speak to the soul, Adhyay resonates with people from all walks of life by literally fusing the raw power of metalcore with the very soul of Bengali music.
In 2016, Adhyay created waves with the release of “Bondhu Tumi Bhalo Theko,” which became the first Bangla rock song of its kind. The song was an instant hit, garnering over 2,000 views within just 10 days and marking a significant milestone in the band’s journey. Encouraged by this overwhelming response, the band went on to release their debut EP, which featured three tracks:

The EP proved to be a huge hit as it sold out within two weeks of its release, touching the hearts of listeners in the entire region. This led to the performance of the group on the revered stage of Nazrul Mancha, an iconic venue for bands in Kolkata. Adhyay performed alongside legendary Bengali rock bands such as Fossils and Fakira, entertaining a crowd of over 3,000 avid fans.
Adhyay further demonstrated their flexibility and paid homage to the Bengali rock legacy by releasing a YouTube Fossils Medley, featuring Rahul. Their cover medley gained wild response and gained more than 1,000 views within 20 hours, signifying the flexibility of Adhyay as they pay respect to their inspirations but put their own signature at the same time.
Beyond their commercial success, Adhyay has also done charity and fund-raising shows. One notable gig was a Force of Fossils charity gig where the band shared the stage with famous artists like Somlata Acharya.
Their passion for music and dedication to their craft makes Adhyay push the frontiers of Bengali metal music and deliver a performance that makes fans feel that they are reaching the limits and beyond the possibilities of Bengali alternative music.
