Aditi Mangaldas is one of the most popular Kathak dancers in India. Known for developing a fresh take on classical dance, she took birth and was raised in the beautiful city of Ahmedabad. It was early on that she realized the force with which she loved dance. She has a B.Sc. degree from St. Byrds College and commenced her formal training in the art of Kathak under the umbrella of Kumudini Lakhia at the renowned Kadam Dance Center in Ahmedabad.
Aditi's Kathak was tradition: it had been complemented throughout her course by this modernity, since she had been schooled early on in the rich heritage that is Kathak. But her artistic vision always pushed her even further: she would explore the contemporary themes within this classical context. For many years, he trained and honed his skills under the legendary tutelage of gurus such as Pt. Birju Maharaj and Smt. Kumudini Lakhia, who contributed largely to his style.
Aditi is known for the fearlessness with which she experiments with Kathak. It is this capability of hers to incorporate contemporary into the classical dance form, thereby discovering something that is so based in tradition yet so innovative—that often features some of her choreography by focusing on subjects such as gender, social issues, and emotions. Indeed, her presentations are both visually breathtaking and mentally stimulating.
Aditi Mangaldas has performed on some of the world's biggest stages, such as the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Royal Opera House in London, and the National Centre for Performing Arts in Mumbai. Her dance company, Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company—The Drishtikon Dance Foundation, has received rave reviews for its path-breaking productions.
Aditi also happens to be a wonderful teacher, mentoring budding dancers and being instrumental in conducting many workshops across the globe. In her bouquet of several academic achievements, she has received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Indo-American Fellowship Award for her contributions to the field.
