That's exactly what is avial, a mixed-vegetable delicacy that coalesces the Malayalam poets' poetry and alternative rock music of today. There is an essence of indierock and folk music on an electronic basis. Broadly speaking, all the band members have a background in performing as a part of different bands and coming together as Avial. Their surrounding experience has endorsed their sound with a richness and diversity, which they are now searching for in becoming more innately authentic. They also thought that more than anything, as they searched for belonging in an ultimate way, they decided to live their roots and then express themselves in their own mother tongue, Malayalam. One could see how this bold move paid off, and their self-titled debut album became a landmark in Indian independent music.
Raw energies and culture-laden and innovative soundscapes bake their music to the listener. Their ability to crossover from sound to sound but remain true to their heritage has earned them a dedicated following and wide critical acclaim. And today, at the top of the Indian touring ladder, Avial probably stands as one of the most sought-after Indian bands, taking pride in being what is now popular for "Alternative Malayalam Rock." The journey they travel shows the power of cultural expression and musical innovation, showing that there is no barrier of language when the music speaks to the soul.
