Chani Nattan, whose birth name is Charnveer Natt, was born on October 31, 1991, in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. He is a popular Punjabi rapper, lyricist, and singer. He is known for combining strong storytelling with themes based on Punjabi culture, history, and social justice. He started his music career in 2017 when he released his first single, "Roos," gaining popularity for his aggressive lyrics and fearless messages.
Throughout the years, Chani has released various hit songs, including "Kharku Life," "Kaali," and "Soldier," which all gained millions of streams. Much of his music tends to reflect on major socio-political matters, especially those related to the Sikh community. One of his most famous tracks, "Free Jaggi," developed in collaboration with Gurpreet Hehar, called for political prisoner Jagtar Singh Johal's release.
Chani Nattan's impact is not limited to the Punjabi music scene. His 2020 single "Drip," with IM, made a remarkable entry in Europe and the UK, proving his global appeal. He has collaborated with a variety of renowned artists, such as Miss Pooja, Inderpal Moga, and Diljit Dosanjh. His collaboration with Diljit Dosanjh on the track "Umbrella" proved his versatility, effortlessly combining traditional Punjabi elements with modern hip-hop rhythms.
In 2024, Chani signed with 91 North Records and dropped "Facetime," a duet with Inderpal Moga and Miss Pooja, further cementing his hold on the global Punjabi music scene. His lyrics tend to delve into issues of identity, strength, and pride in heritage, resonating strongly with people across the globe.
Apart from music, Chani is also involved in charity work. He has coordinated food and toy drives, such as the Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale Food & Toy Drive, which, in 2018, was the biggest organized food donation in British Columbia, donating 38,000 pounds of food to the needy.
Chani Nattan studied at Princess Margaret Secondary School and later Kwantlen Polytechnic University. He still resides in Surrey with his wife, Tina Deol, whom he wedded in 2020. Through his activism and music, Chani continues to be a strong voice for the Punjabi community across the globe.
