Colonel Rajeev Bharwan is a highly esteemed ex-officer of the Indian Army who is well-known for his meritorious service and leadership. Born on March 6, 1980, in Panchkula, Haryana, he was brought up in a humble family. Since childhood, a burning desire to serve in the armed forces inspired him to pursue not only a military vocation but also strong academics.
Primary schooling was done at Panchkula, whereas he completed a physics degree from the Army Public School. Thereafter, he took postgraduate studies at Kurukshetra University. His commissioning into the Indian Army occurred in 1999 during the Kargil War into the infantry. His first posting was in Manipur with the Assam Rifles. One of the youngest officers, he soon acclimatized to the difficult environment of insurgencies and complex military operations.
Colonel Bharwan has been a key player in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations that spanned various conflict zones in India, such as Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, and Jammu and Kashmir, thereby giving him 21 years of military experience. He has commanded elite airborne regiments as well as infantry battalions and led high-risk missions with utmost precision and dedication. Strategic thinking and decision-making have been his strong points that contributed to his success in operating in extremely challenging situations.
During an operation in the northeast, he had encounter after encounter. While he was raiding a suspect's house, he was confronted directly with an armed person. It was just at that critical second when his adversary's weapon malfunctioned, and he took swift action to neutralize the threat. Such situations openly testify to the perils he faced during active operations.
After retiring in the year 2020, he moved into mentoring and leadership development. As an SSB instructor, he now trains young aspirants in life skills, leadership, and personal development. He is an active voice out there in the virtual world, sharing his insights and reaching out to many with his tales and motivational posts.
His story, from being a small boy in a small town to a leader in the elite forces, is a true testimony to his commitment, determination, and nationalism. Colonel Rajeev Bharwan keeps serving the nation through mentoring, thereby influencing the armed forces and the youth in India.
