DJ Akhtar is currently amongst the top 3 djs in India since over a decade now. He used to be the resident DJ at Engima at the JW Mariott Mumbai until 2009 since 2005. Prior to which he used to consult as a promotions/entertainment director and head disc jockey of the swanky night club Insomnia/1900's (Nineteen Hundreds) at the Taj Mahal Hotel -- Mumbai for over 15 years since May 1990. He's has been recently voted as the number 2 dj in India on the surveyed television show "Zee Top 10" featured on Zee TV, Zee Café and Zee Trends. As his reputation precedes, DJ Akhtar is not only known for his great music sense but he's also known for his friendly down to earth attitude.

2009 Onwards: Freelancing across the globe in more than 23 countries for corporate events, weddings, private parties, club events, etc. 2005 – 2009: Resident DJ at Engima at the JW Mariott Mumbai 2005 – 06 : Adjudged Best DJ in the country for 2005-2006. Award presented at the Lions Club International Gold Awards (Sol) by the then Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil and Director General of Police Dr. Parischa. 1990 – 2005 : Promotions/entertainment director and head disc jockey of the swanky night club Insomnia (Then known as 1900’s) at the Taj Mahal Hotel “Disco Dynamite” -- his solo remix album released on the Times Music label feat the hit video track “Laila”. 1991 : Moved over to the exclusive nightclub of the Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai – Insomnia (Then known as “1900’s”). Completing his graduation in commerce from University of Bombay and obtaining diplomas in business management, airline travel and tourism (IATA) and computer systems overview (CSO) - (NCC-UK) he made sure that his passion for music and dj’ing didn’t interfere with his educational background. During his tenure at the Taj was also responsible for all the co-ordination of entertainment & events at nearly most of the hotels of the Taj group and a few of their international properties too like St James Crown Plaza-London, Taj Admiral Plaza – Dubai and Taj Exotica-Maldives. On seeing this popularity and reliability other individual clubs and hotels started signing up with him. 1989 : Completed his I.C.S.E. exams and started off his dj’ing career at a popular south Bombay Club - “RG’s” now The Intercontinental – Marine Drive.
