Shalu Maharjan, popularly known as DJ Quinn, is one of the well-known DJs and music producers coming from Nepal. Born and raised in Nepal, music had always been in her blood. However, it was not an easy path into the underground music world for her. At first, her parents were not very supportive of her decision to practice DJing, as it was not a conventional career to pursue, especially for women. But with time and true determination, she managed to convince them to allow her to pursue her dream.
She started working professionally as a DJ long before actually completing the DJing course. However, getting gigs as a female DJ was a big challenge in Nepal. It was mostly a male world for underground music, and opportunities for female DJs were limited. Despite that, DJ Quinn managed to create a name for herself through her hard work, dedication, and her own unique style.
For the last three years, she has played for numerous clubs, music festivals, concerts, weddings, and private parties all over Nepal. Her music is a dynamic and energetic mix of electronic beats with underground sounds, which keeps everyone present in the venue dancing. Her skill in audience reading and flawless mixes puts her way above the bar in the industry.
DJ Quinn not only has plans for working, but she also has a vision of the future. First, she intends to mentor aspiring DJs and plans to teach at a DJ academy. She believes in empowering young talent, particularly women, to shatter glass ceilings in the industry. Second, she hopes to inspire junior DJs in Nepal by sharing her story and passing on her knowledge and skills.
