Eccentric Pendulum is a progressive metal band based in Bangalore, India, known for their complex and technical compositions. The band was formed in 2008, quickly becoming popular in the Indian metal scene for their combination of progressive metal along with jazz and experimental music. Their sound is often compared to international sounds such as Meshuggah, Opeth, and Cynic, but with a touch of Indian flavour.
The original lineup comprised Arun Natarajan (vocals), Vibhas Rahul (guitars), Ashish Sachan (drums), and Arun Prasad (bass). The lineup changed through the ages, yet the band maintained the tight-knit, intricate music they delivered. Most compositions have odd time signatures, tempo changes, and philosophical or even introspective lyrics.
Eccentric Pendulum released their debut EP, The Sculptor of Negative Emotions, in 2009, pretty much to rave reviews among underground metal circles. The full-length album was released much later, in 2011, called Winding the Optics. This one showcased the band's growth with more polished production and refined songwriting. Two tracks, "Resisting Another Equation" and "Of Endless Tangles", stood out for their technical brilliance.
They won the Indian leg of the Wacken Metal Battle and went on to perform at Germany's Wacken Open Air in 2011, earning them international exposure as one of the world's biggest metal festivals.
Eccentric Pendulum can be seen live at rousing performances, embodying the intensity of their musical precision and stage presence. They have opened for most big bands like Meshuggah, Textures, and Enslaved and have carved a strong position for themselves as one of India's leading progressive metal bands.
The commitment to quality and innovation has created a loyal fan base because of having a niche and transcendental genre. Eccentric Pendulum takes Indian metal forward, really being a progressive band whose tunes inspire many younger bands today in the experimental scene.
