Koushik O Nagar Sankirtan is an energetic Baul-Fakiri music collective established in Kolkata, currently gaining fame for how deeply they push the traditional boundaries of roots music while exploring new experimental sounds. This innovative act, under the creative leadership of Koushik, primarily blends the folk with modern alternative elements. Koushik is a highly regarded artist and musician to the vibrant music scene of Kolkata yet has been known for his singular contribution to the cultural landscape of the city.
The current project being undertaken by Koushik O Nagar Sankirtan is a live one, called "On the Road," which intends to bring a brand new immersive experience into the field of music. It will take form into the new release of a live experimental folk album in the coming year-their all-new sound-and-artistic vision. The collective music is very much characterized by bold experimentation with various genres while upholding the significance of Bengali folk traditions. Melding the roots with modern influences has set up a sound that is culturally grounding yet highly progressive.
Nagar Sankirtan's music is crossing borders of genres; folk, Baul and Fakiri-in the very much improvisational direction they have gone with a whole other range of alternative and experimental styles. Their contributions are not only celebrating the glorious past of Bengali music but also rendering it current while being as authentic as possible.
Koushik O Nagar Sankirtan would become one of the new landmarks in the ever-changing soundscape of Kolkata. These go from a very immersive experience high on risk where the band creates this palette of sounds, rhythms, and moods to give the audience something completely unique every time to a live performance. And with such experimentation and the different possibilities they would continue to pursue, it is only going to be exciting for whatever comes next as their new album merges the folk roots and cutting-edge experimentation.ic.
