Meghranjani Medhi is a celebrated Kathak dancer and actress from Assam, India, known for her grace, technique, and contribution to Indian classical arts. Born into a culturally rich family, she is the daughter of renowned Kathak dancer Marami Medhi and singer-composer Joy Prakash Medhi. With this artistic environment, Meghranjani began learning Kathak at the age of three under her mother's guidance.
She further honed her craft under legendary Kathak gurus such as Pandit Birju Maharaj of the Lucknow gharana and Pandit Rajendra Gangani of the Jaipur gharana. Her training reflects the richness of both styles, adding depth and versatility to her performances.
Academically accomplished, Meghranjani holds a Nritya Nipun degree in Kathak from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith, Lucknow, and a master’s degree in Kathak dance from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh. She also earned a Nritya Nipun degree in Sattriya dance, showcasing her versatility across classical forms.
Her performances have graced prestigious platforms such as the Khajuraho Dance Festival, Kathak Mahotsav by Kathak Kendra, and the Sadhana Festival of Dance in New Delhi. Meghranjani has represented India internationally in countries like Egypt, Israel, Palestine, and the UAE through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), promoting India’s classical heritage globally.
Beyond dance, Meghranjani has made her mark in Assamese cinema and television. She has acted in popular films such as Anuradha, Jaanmoni, and Rumal, and TV shows like Tumi Dusokut Kajol Lole. Her acting skills have won her awards, including the Nebcus Media Award and the Nirod Chaudhary Award for Best Actress.
In 2024, she received the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from the Sangeet Natak Akademi for her contribution to Kathak. Currently, she resides in New Zealand with her husband, Neil Das, also an artist.
Meghranjani Medhi continues to be a torchbearer of Indian classical dance, inspiring audiences with her dedication, artistic excellence, and passion for preserving India’s cultural legacy.
