Sumit Antil is an Indian para-athlete who has gained fame through fantastic performances in the javelin throw. Born on June 6, 1998, in a small village of Haryana, Sumit had to overcome a series of obstacles after being confined to a wheelchair in 2015 due to a motorcycle accident. The disability did not discourage him; he discovered his passion in sports and, more precisely, athletics.
Sumit grabbed international attention at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games when he took home a gold medal in the men's javelin throw F64 competition, throwing the javelin to a distance of 68.55 meters, for a new world record. At this stage, the feat was not only of great historical importance to Indian para-athletics but also managed to make him dominant in the sport.
His commitment, resilience, and hard work have brought him laurels in numerous national and international competitions, inspiring many, and especially promising athletes with disabilities. Sumit has also been very proactive about promoting para-sports and advocating for inclusivity in athletics. His journey has become a powerful testament to the spirit of determination motivating people to overcome their obstacles and chase their dreams. Sumit Antil continues to be an inspiration, being the symbol for what potential lies in strength among para-athletes on the global platform.
