6MIX was a group in the stages of debuting but formed under the auspices of JYP Entertainment sometime between 2014 and 2015. The idea was to have a sort of successor to Miss A. Originally a group of six members, they comprised Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo (known then as Jisoo), Minyoung, Lena, and Cecilia. After unsuccessfully engaging in what looked to be comprehensive preparations, including the filming of teasers and debut showcase planning, 6MIX never debuted.
The group faced challenges that ultimately led to its disbandment. Cecilia left in 2014 due to a serious knee injury that ended her dancing career, and she later went to China to pursue acting under her birth name, Song Yanfei. Lena from Los Angeles had left JYP Entertainment before the survival show "SIXTEEN," returning to the USA. Japanese trainee Sana was brought in to take Cecilia's place in the lineup; however, with the subsequent departure of Lena, preparations were further delayed. The debut was postponed two to three days before the scheduled filming of their music video, an event that left a huge scar in the hearts of the members, as said by Jihyo.
After the disbandment of 6MIX, JYP Entertainment, in order to form a new girl group, went ahead with the survival show called "SIXTEEN." Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Sana were contestants on the show and debuted as members of TWICE in October 2015. Minyoung also participated but was eliminated and soon left the company.
While their name may never have gone past a mere rumor, the legacy of 6MIX lives on through TWICE, probably the greatest representative K-pop girl group in the world. The lore surrounding 6MIX became an enthralling piece of K-pop history, especially cherished among avid TWICE fans. It leads many to muse about what would have and could have been if another girl group had debuted on time. The trials faced by 6MIX simply reinforce just how intensely mutable the K-pop industry can be; last-minute cancellations often ruin better-planned groups. Exactly because they never made it to the stage, they are now a stepping stone for several heavyweights in the industry, showing that in some cases, projects that just don't make it could actually become a basis for those that do.
