The Suffers are a dynamic soul, funk, and R&B band based in Houston, Texas. The band's live performances have always been energetic and genre-bending. Formed in 2011, the band rapidly rose to prominence through their original sound, blending soul, funk, reggae, and R&B to create a fresh, yet deeply rooted, sound. Over the years, The Suffers have gained a loyal fan base and critical acclaim for their electrifying live performances and original works.
The brainchild of founders Adam Castaneda and Pat Kelly, initially conceived as a Reggae cover band, grew into a diverse group of musicians from different walks of life that helped shape their eclectic and more powerful sound. Lead vocal powerhouse Kam Franklin delivers the depth and soul The Suffers draw on in live shows. The talented crew includes a series of musicians-the impressive Juliet Terrill on trumpet, Kevin Bernier on trombone, and guitar master Jon Durbin as well as on-bass-and Michael Razo with Jose Luna handling drums-aiding the special chemistry of a live performance via Nick Zamora at keyboard.
The Suffers have performed alongside some of the biggest names in the industry: Lizzo, Mavis Staples, and The Roots, bringing their soulful energy to the world. With their debut album, The Suffers (2016), and subsequent releases, they've been showered with accolades for infectious grooves, heartfelt lyrics, and mastery of a multitude of genres.
