Vikas Bhalla was born on October 24, 1972, in Mumbai, India. He is a versatile artist whose work has had an impact on Indian cinema as well as on music. Growing up in a Punjabi household, Bhalla's initial studies were at the Bombay Scottish School, and later he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Narsee Monjee College in Mumbai. He initiated his artistic process at the age of nine with training in Hindustani classical music under the guidance of Pandit Jialal Vasant, and afterwards under Guru Iqbal Gill from 1985.
In 1995, Bhalla debuted as an actor in the movie "Sauda," playing the role of Deepak opposite actress Neelam. He then went on to act in a number of films during the late 1990s and early 2000s, such as "Taaqat," "Jeeo Shaan Se," "Dil Ke Jharoke Main," and "Pyaar Mein Twist." Although his work in films made a limited impression, Bhalla made a great impact on television. He started off on the small screen with "Apne Paray" in 2001, playing the son of experienced actor Rajesh Khanna. His television career increased with appearances in popular shows like "Tum Bin Jaaoon Kahaan," "Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny," "Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin," "Shanno Ki Shaadi," and "Uttaran." In 2015, he also extended his television work by being a part of the reality show "Bigg Boss 9."
Alongside his acting career, Bhalla developed his interest in music. He came out with his first album, "Awaara," in 1995, and then "Dhuan" in 1997, which included the popular track "Hai Dhuan." The song received great reviews and made him a popular name among Indian music artists. He contributed his voice to the song "Paagal Si Saari Leheren" for the movie "Marigold" in 2007. His work with top Bollywood stars followed in 2012 when he sang the playback for the track "Po Po" in the movie "Son of Sardar" with Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Sanjay Dutt.
Aside from acting and vocals, Bhalla has ventured into producing. In 2008, he formed Rat Race Entertainment, a production house that has created content for Pakistani and Canadian television channels. He also founded IndoWest Films in 2013 to provide support for Indian productions in foreign locations.
On a personal level, Bhalla wedded Punita Chopra, daughter of celebrated actor Prem Chopra, on October 10, 1996. Bhalla and his wife have two children, Sanchi and Veer. Bhalla's varied career, ranging from acting to music and production, demonstrates his versatility and long-standing presence in the Indian entertainment industry.
