Yasmin Karachiwala is a well-known Indian fitness expert credited with introducing Pilates in India, otherwise revolutionising the fitness scenario of the country. She was born in the United States on July 4th, 1970, and moved to Mumbai, graduating in economics from St. Xavier's College. The motivation for fitness came to her when she was just 18 years old when a friend dragooned her into the gym. It transferred from a casual affair into a deeply rooted passion for fitness.
She now holds a certification as a fitness group trainer from the American Council on Exercise. In 2006, she came to be India's first BASI-certified Pilates instructor, opening up the doors for the practice to rule popularity in the country. She went on to set up Yasmin's Body Image, her flagship fitness studio in Mumbai, which now has branches in cities like Delhi, Gurgaon, Indore, Dhaka, and Dubai.
With experience training Bollywood celebrities like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, and Kareena Kapoor, and even sports personalities like Zaheer Khan, Yasmin is well known. Her workouts focus on strength, flexibility, posture, and core training, specialising in combining Pilates with functional fitness for individualised goals.
In addition, she has authored the book Sculpt and Shape – The Pilates Way, which was released in 2015 and gives insights into fitness routines and healthy living. In fact, her accomplishments have garnered for her various awards, such as Best Fitness Instructor at the Vogue Fashion Awards and the Elle Beauty Award for Best Fitness Expert.
Apart from running her studio, Yasmin is digitally a fitness influencer on various social media websites. She shares tips, workouts, and motivation through videos and posts with the rest of the world to lead an active lifestyle at any age.
Married to Minhaz Karachiwala, she is a proud mother of three: Amaan, Zahaan, and Shaazia. Her standing as a wellness advocate and the torchbearer for communities defining modern fitness in India make her one of the biggest names in the country when it comes to influences in fitness.
